A volunteer firefighter has died after suffering a medical episode while battling a fire in regional New South Wales. The volunteer was battling a fire in Bean Creek, in the New South Wales Kyogle region, when he died, the Rural Fire Service announced on Saturday. Other members of the RFS attempted first aid until paramedics arrived. However, the volunteer’s life couldn’t be saved.
“This is a terrible tragedy, where a volunteer helping protect his community has paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Commissioner Rob Rogers said. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and firefighting colleagues at this terrible time. “We are offering every assistance to his family and fellow brigade members.” A grass fire had been burning in Bean Creek Road and was being controlled, according to the RFS website.
