Independent candidate Yvonne Weldon's team said it was a hugely disappointing way to start election day.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore has apologised after hearing that a volunteer in her campaign was accused of tearing down corflutes for her rival candidate Yvonne Weldon.
Residents across the state are today heading to the ballot boxes to cast their votes in this year's council elections. But outside the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern, Weldon's team caught a man they claimed had this morning taken down her corflutes and placed them in his car.In a video posted to social media, her team filmed a man they identified as the volunteer and instructed him to put the corflutes back up where a Vote Clover banner now hangs.
Weldon is an Indigenous and independent candidate vying to be Sydney's next Lord Mayor — a role Moore has held for a record 20 years.at Surry Hills Library today, Weldon said her team have reported similar incidents with her corflutes being taken down in the lead up to election day. She added it was disappointing the incident took place where it did and "for the only Indigenous candidate, Aboriginal candidate, to be standing for the mayor of Sydney to have her posters being taken down".
