Apple Maps will be better integrated into all Volvos, while the Polestar 2 gets YouTube, and an improved range app with the Swedish brands' latest update car auto cars

The functionalities of several apps in Volvo and Polestar vehicles are about to improve, thanks to the latest over-the-air update. The software push will introduce new features to Apple CarPlay and to other built-in services.

To start, both Volvo and Polestar vehicles will benefit from an improved Apple CarPlay. The biggest change will be the ability to project Apple Maps onto the driver display. In addition, the screen behind the steering wheel will also be able to show more information relating to the driver’s phone, and their media, while Apple CarPlay is in use. Drivers will be able to answer, reject, and end calls using the buttons on the steering wheel, and an Apple CarPlay tile in the center display will also show media information.

For owners of the Polestar 2, there will be more additions, though they’re unrelated to Apple. Its 15th update since 2020 will introduce a built-in YouTube app for drivers to watch while they’re parked or charging. Finally, the brand’s Range Assistant app has been improved to allow drivers to better monitor their energy consumption. They will be able to look back at the last 20, 40, or 100 miles thanks to real-time energy usage figures that are intended to help them drive more efficiently.

“We know how much our customers look forward to over-the-air upgrades, and I am convinced this one will be well received, with notable new features and enhancements,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO. “YouTube is great for entertainment while charging, and our updated Range Assistant app delivers more accurate predictions and supports an improved driving style.”
