Independent Omicron modelling from UWA indicates that despite the state's delayed opening, it will be hard to achieve a higher level of immunity in WA than what was in place on February 5.

The delay in reopening Western Australia to the rest of the country will achieve very little in the way of public health, according to a WA infectious disease expert.But new data suggests waning immunity counters benefits from the delayUniversity of Western Australia professor George Milne has prepared new modelling on the Omicron variant, and had in the past advised WA Health on the COVID-19 pandemic.

"And in fact, coincidentally, we're showing that around about the time that the border would have opened, that there is a level of immunity in the population that it's hard to get higher than."Premier Mark McGowan announced last week the border opening was being delayed indefinitely
