A magnitude four earthquake has rocked the coast of Western Australia, with tremors felt in several towns south of Perth.
Geoscience Australia, the organisation responsible for monitoring seismic activity across the country, detected a quake in the Southern Ocean off the coast of D’Entrecasteaux National Park at about 10.45am, local time, on Thursday.
The state has been rocked by a handful of earthquakes in recent times, with the town of Collie recording two quakes three days ago and a weak quake occurred in Lake Muir last week. Earthquakes occur in Australia due to plate tectonic forces exerting stress on the rocks within the country's crust.
