The 80-year-old is being moved to a hospital on the mainland to receive treatment. Japan announced its first COVID-19 death after a woman in her 80s died from the disease.
A government official confirmed she was the mother-in-law of a Tokyo taxi driver who earlier tested positive. Her death comes as more than 200 passengers and crew onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship remain in quarantine.
