Following the death of NSW paramedic Steven Tougher, St John Ambulance conducted a six-month trial of stab-proof vests in WA. But the service has found the equipment is uncomfortable and does little to improve the safety of workers.

About 170 paramedics wore the stab-proof vest s for a trial period of six months.After a six month trial, WA paramedics will no longer wear stab-proof vest s with body cameras while on duty.What's next?

"We were very keen to understand — were they able to conduct their duties? What was the level of discomfort? He said there were about 260 incidents of violence and aggression towards paramedics every year and that 326 staff members were injured in the last five years.
