Wait times for COVID-19 test results blow out | LindaMorrissmh
Waits for results of COVID-19 tests have blown out to three days and longer as one of the state’s major pathology service struggles with demand.
Anna Fong, from Shellharbour, has been unable to work since her Year 6 son Caden was sent home from school with a runny nose on Tuesday. As NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced another death and a further 105 local COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Ms Fong had still not received the results. “Reading the Facebook posts, people have been waiting a lot longer than I. Some cannot work, some cannot see a doctor until they get their results. Luckily, I’m not as affected. It’s just an inconvenience being stuck at home.Laverty operates 44 drive-through COVID-19 testing clinics in addition to its network of pathology centres. In addition to its public contracts, it operates a private testing service for corporations offering a 24-hour turnaround service.
“Having said that, I understand the high demand and long hours they are working. Especially if they are focusing on high-risk areas, which I am not.”NSW’s Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant on Saturday.
