Walking Dead's creator regrets naming large gatherings of zombies 'herds.' 'The main reason for that is that almost immediately after it started appearing in print, I realized 'HORDE' would have been a much better name. Ugh.'

When building the world of a major crossover entertainment franchise, it’s only natural that some decisions might appear slipshod in hindsight, but as far as The Walking Dead is concerned, writer Robert Kirkman has one regret that stings like no other. Currently commentating his blockbuster comic series in a color re-release entitled The Walking Dead Deluxe, Kirkman recently revealed one of his least favorite aspects of the gritty yet beloved story, and the answer may come as a surprise.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Walking Dead spanned #193 issues from 2003 to 2019, published by Image Comics, and later spun off into an empire of Walking Dead tv shows, videogames, and other assorted media.

Zombie 'Herds' Should Have Been 'Hordes' Instead While it is common for many artists to question various aspects of their work years after production, especially for the sake of improvement in later installments, it is rare to witness the creator of an absolutely massive entertainment franchise bemoaning what is a comparatively minor quibble in such bombastic terms.

Terminology for groups can be a fascinating concept, as many obscure and clever turns of phrase often come out of these venery nouns, such as a “crash” of rhinoceroses or an “eloquence” of lawyers as terms for a collective group. What Robert Kirkman is insinuating is that he wishes he’d coined a phrase more fitting and clever by his standards.
