Water New South Wales has warned Warragamba Dam is expected to spill after several days of relentless rain, as more wet weather is set to drench the state.
Water NSW warns Warragamba Dam set to spill 'in the coming hours' after relentless rain, as severe weather warnings issued
"Warragamba Dam is close to full capacity and we expect it to begin to spill in the coming hours," Water NSW shared on X. May 11, 2024 The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for south-east NSW, particularly the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts.BOM Meteorologist Christie Johnson said rain totals over the next 24 hours could reach between 120 and 160mm, with isolated falls up to 200mm possible over the ranges."This is rainfall falling on already wet grounds, so the water will pool and cause flash flooding.
Meanwhile, a flood watch has been issued for the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley and New South Wales South Coast.
