An emergency alert was issued to residents in Sydney’s south after a fire broke out at a warehouse after 9am on Saturday. 7NEWS
Fire and Rescue NSW issued an alert after toxic smoke from the warehouse fire clouded the sky.Excavators and machinery were used to spread out the burning rubbish so firefighters could properly extinguish the blaze.The burning rubbish is still being spread out by machinery so that it can be properly extinguished.
A warning has been issued for residents and visitors in the area as smoke blankets the surrounding area. Hazmat Technicians are monitoring the smoke plume and working to ensure that toxic runoff does not enter waterways. An excavator is working to remove excess waste materials from the Rockdale blaze along with 100 firefighters.Firefighters contained the blaze by the early afternoon, but say it will likely take the them until the evening before it is entirely extinguished.Earlier, residents were advised to close all vents and turn off air conditioning.
