The Canadian filmmaker behind 1997 Oscar-winning movie Titanic has revealed the submergence industry had written letters to OceanGate, warning their Titan submersible was “too experimental” before it imploded during a voyage.
The United States Coast Guard on Thursday confirmed all five passengers onboard the missing sub died after a catastrophic loss of pressure imploded the vessel.
The submersible, Titan, which was launched on Sunday by OceanGate lost communication, sparking an emergency mission. Picture: Supplied Cameron in 2012 piloted the Deepsea Challenger and was the first person to travel more than 10,900 metres down to the Mariana Trench solo. It is considered one of the deepest known spots in the ocean.
