Officers tried to stop 36-year-old David Nagl near the intersection of East Bogard Road and North Peck Street just before 4 a.m. Sunday, the Wasilla Police DepartmentThe officers initiated the traffic stop after they saw that Nagl was speeding, had failed to stop for a traffic light, didn’t signal, and drove off the road while turning right, police said. Instead of stopping, they said, he fled north on Bogard toward a roundabout.
Police pursued Nagl as he turned west onto Seldon Road and he “continued eluding” until he hit the moose, the department said. The officers estimated that he was driving more than 100 mph when the motorcycle collided with the animal, police said.An investigation continues into the factors that may have led to the crash.Tess Williams is a reporter for the Anchorage Daily News, focusing on breaking news.
