The eleventh-hour twist behind young gun’s epic Aussie debut
Tanveer Sangha wasn’t supposed to play Wednesday’s T20 against South Africa. He wasn’t even in Australia’s squad when he woke up yesterday morning.
“He got off the plane yesterday, wasn’t playing until this morning … I’m sure he was nervous, but you couldn’t tell.” Sangha was one of four Australian debutants at Kingsmead on Wednesday, alongside Victoria’s Matt Short, South Australia’s Spencer Johnson and Western Australia’s Aaron Hardie. But the baby-faced leggie bounced back on his sixth delivery, with Proteas captain Aiden Markram carving a cut stroke towards Marcus Stoinis at backward point.
