This has meant she has been forced to carry on working, despite numerous health conditions, as she cannot afford to retire.“I have lost out on about £47,000 compared to if I had been able to retire at 60 as I should have done,” she said. Ms Woodward, who lives in Dorset with husband Keith, says it was only a chance conversation with a friend when she was 58 that led to her realisingThe self-employed children’s entertainer says she had no choice but to carry on working as a children’s entertainer – despite being in constant pain and being hardly able to walk – so she could earn an income to maintain an adequate quality of life.
“I now have eight months to go until 29 December when I can finally retire and I am absolutely done and cannot wait for that.” “I don’t want to turn this into men-bashing, but I do think it has been sexist and if it had been men affected by this pension age change, I think the whole matter would have been treated differently and dealt with more quickly.
