A long awaited ruling from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has explained how much money should be paid out
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman ruling into the maladministration which saw potentially millions of women’s retirement plans thrown into disarray has finally been released - including how much those impacted should get. The report says the Department for Work and Pensions failed to adequately inform thousands of women that the state pension age had changed.
A huge campaign represented by the Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign has been battling for justice for up to 3.8 million whose retirement plans were thrown into chaos by the changes. The PHSO has now given its verdict on how much compensation it feels those negatively impacted should get.
The PHSO website says this compensation would be between £1,000-£2,950 and describes this level as being for ‘A case at level four will involve the person affected experiencing a significant and/or lasting impact, so much so that to some extent it has affected their ability to live a relatively normal life. In these cases the injustice will go beyond distress or inconvenience, except where this has been for a very prolonged period of time.
