It does not appear to be a good time to be a dollar store employee in Democratic-ruled Detroit.
Since the start of the new year, at least 20 dollar store locations in the Motor City have been robbed, Detroit Police Department Chief James White said Monday.Dollar stores are easy prey for armed criminals, according to White. When looking at the near two-dozen armed robberies, authorities in Detroit have confirmed one arrest.
Fernando Ford, 30, has been arrested and is facing charges of armed robbery and felony possession of a firearm for actions relating to at least one of the dollar store incidents, according to Detroit police. White and officials said they are working to bring in another suspect they believe to be involved in several robberies, according to the police chief.
He further explained that they do have another suspect in custody who they believe to be responsible for several robberies. However, they will not be releasing his name or offenses until he is charged. Detroit police maintain that they are working to make dollar stores harder targets for criminals, and White said they are working with stores themselves as well as those in custody to accomplish that goal."We debrief and find out, 'Why'd you go to this one? Why did you do that?' You know, 'What made you choose these [locations]?'" he said."When we get that information, we share it.
