The House of Representatives is debating on the floor as the government is set to shutdown on Oct. 1 if a stopgap bill is not passed.

A Republican-led stopgap bill was shot down on Friday and with less than a day until funding for the federal government expires, it appears likely a government shutdown will occur.

A continuing resolution proposed by a bipartisan group of Senators appears to have no chance in the House, after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said on Friday that the bill had"no path forward and is dead on arrival." A government shutdown would mean hundreds of thousands of federal workers being furloughed or forced to work with delayed pay.
