BREAKING: Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced NSW has recorded 170 infections overnight - a significant drop from Thursday's 239 cases.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she is expecting to see the"numbers bounce around" due to the number of cases infectious in the community.

Photo: Lisa Maree Williams Pool/Getty Images Of the new cases, 77 are linked to a known case or cluster with 61 being household contacts and 16 identified as close contacts.NSW Health said only 46 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and ten cases were in isolation for part of their infectious period. The 239 local cases on Thursday marked the first time daily numbers have hit 200 amid the state’s latest outbreak of the highly contagious Delta strain.NSW’s previous record was 212 cases on March 28, 2020.

Ms Berejiklian on Wednesday confirmed the stay-at-home orders for Greater Sydney would be extended for a further four weeks until August 28.
