Steven Monteleone turns the ignition key and his engine roars to life. An 1147 cc straight-4 Triumph engine powers his 50-plus-year-old 1967 convertible. The top is down and the sun is out on this warm summer day as he rolls through the streets of his hometown of Ortley Beach.
Monteleone, aka Captain Monty, has wanted one of these since he was in his 20s. Now, at the age of 63, he’s living his dream. He was able to acquire one of these unusual rides in 2015 and has lovingly cared for it ever since. He drives the car quite often around town to the delight of onlookers who smile, wave, give thumbs up and always want to engage in conversation about his unique car — or boat — if you prefer.. Monty thinks there are only about 400 in the U.S. and around 90 in Europe.
