From a trashy all-star rom-com of dreams to a fresh comedy series helmed by Natasha Rothwell, here are four shows to watch that are new, very good and out right now.
A rom-com starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody , plus three more shows to fall in love with this weekend.have had on the internet makes even more sense when you realise not many big shows have returned for new series over the past few weeks.came back for its eighth season, but the drama at The Oppenheim Group is feeling more than a little tired. Yes, Gary Oldman's. I know it takes more TV than that to fill you up.
"I wanted to be swept away by a rom-com. Instead, I was faced with the reality that maybe this show actually hates me." When Mel wakes up in a shared hospital room hours later, the attending doctor tells her she died for three minutes."There are three kinds of deaths — the physical kind… then there's the kind when people stop caring about you. And the worst kind is when you stop caring for yourself," Mrs Robinson says. You know where this is going. But the destination isn't important and the journey is everything.
The ensemble cast, mostly comprising Mel's co-workers, is similarly brilliant. Carl, the airport's "birdman" is brought to life by comedy veteran H Jon Benjamin, and Mel's Dwight-Schrute-reminiscent nemesis Patti is cackle-worthy.This mystery, told in classic noir style, starts off with gravel-voiced private eye Nick Bali summarising the overdone myth of Icarus, who flew too close to the Sun.It's also heavy on info-dumping and could have used more budget.
Leo's sister-in-law, Penelope , doesn't buy this story. But the family's widowed matriarch, Audrey , doesn't want any more investigation into what happened for fear of their company's stock tanking. Neither does Leo's brother, Ilias, for reasons Bali can't work out. This would likely have been a compelling but samey noir murder mystery were it not for the surprising number of A-List names attached to Killer Heat, who each have acting chops to match their level of fame.
I can't say too much about Madden's performance without giving big things away, so I will settle for this: I hope he got double the salary everyone else did.Another whodunnit! But this one is set much closer to home, in the idyllic Illawarra coastal region of New South Wales. And it's more comedy than drama. Fans of the global hit mystery franchise Death in Paradise will recognise the formula; Return to Paradise is Australia's original spin-off series.
