To watch tonight: A cloud of bats will take flight, streaming from Bracken Cave on Facebook Live

As the critters that inhabit Bracken Cave Preserve take flight, Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists Richard Heilbrun and Craig Hensley will discuss them and take questions from online viewers. Bracken Cave20 miles from downtown San Antonio, is home to more than 15 million Mexican free-tailed bats, making it the largest bat colony in the world, according to a news release from the event hosts.
In addition, the biologists will discuss the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, which is making its way through Congress, and how it would benefit wildlife conservation in Texas. The proposed $1.4 billion legislation would provide funding to states to help protect wildlife, including helping at-risk wildlife, preventing animals from becoming endangered, and aiding in the recovery of endangered species.
The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act would provide $50 million to Texas to help save wildlife, including restoring land like Bracken Cave, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. Situated on 3,462 acres of the Texas Hill Country, the Bracken Cave Preserve is managed by Bat Conservation International and The Nature Conservancy.
