A restaurant has said building issues led to it receiving a 1/5 food hygiene rating, after dropping from a 5/5.

Major improvement was apparently specifically needed in the third category, management of food safety.

A spokesperson for Fireaway Watford said: “On the day, we had structural issues with the building that let us down and they were not able to complete everything.” He explained that the pizzeria made an appeal over the grade, which is apparently being considered, and Fireaway Watford will be reinspected.

“We have corrected those issues now and we are quite hopeful we will get a five,” the spokesperson added. The Watford location had been awarded a 5/5 in November 2019, which it had held until the most recent inspection.
