Wayne Rooney was back in the dugout for a competitive game for the first time in seven months as he witnessed his Plymouth Argyle side lose at Sheffield Wednesday
Wayne Rooney 's first game in charge of Plymouth Argyle ended in disappointment as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. Rooney, who last managed Birmingham before his departure back in January, was appointed as their new head coach in May after the Pilgrims survived relegation from the Championship on the final day of last season.
And it was Rooney's ex-Everton teammate Brendan Galloway that did the damage by putting the ball into his own net, albeit in unfortunate circumstances. Lowe's header across the face of goal bounced off Galloway's forehead and flew into the corner. Rooney made three changes just before the hour mark but that did not help change the context of the result, as Wednesday added a third on 82 minutes.
