One western Sydney area has been listed as a hotspot for more than a month, but residents are fighting to change that as they hit a 90 per cent COVID-19 vaccination mark.

Western Sydney and NSW’s north-west regions are leading the nation’s vaccine uptake, with residents receiving their first shots at twice the pace of the rest of the nation.More than 9.4 per cent of Blacktown residents received a first dose in the past week.
Jelis Fatema is the clinic manager at the Western Sydney LHD Aboriginal Medical Centre in Mt Druitt and said the push to get the vaccine had come from the oldest members of the community."They want to protect their mob and their children and they know that it is for the best.The Mt Druitt area has now administered one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 61 per cent of its Indigenous population.
