Unions may start industrial action threatening billions of dollars of LNG exports in the next fortnight, after resolving action if no progress is made in talks.
Unions have resolved to take industrial action at Woodside’s North West Shelf gas platforms by the start of next month if there is no progress in long-running pay negotiations on Wednesday.
The unions did not specify what type of action might be taken, with options ranging from specific work bans to indefinite strikes. However, in a social media post on Sunday, the Alliance said protected action would threaten billions of dollars of gas exports and warned “we don’t bluff”. Offshore Alliance spokesperson, AWU WA Secretary Brad Gandy, said it was time for Woodside to accept that its workers want an industry-standard enterprise agreement.
The Woodside platform workers, on about $200,000 a year on a 14-day fly-in, fly-out cycle, have never had a union deal and their pay and conditions exist in individual contracts and company policies.
