The Washington County School Board recommended and unanimously approved Richard Holmes as the new district superintendent during the board meeting Tuesday night.
The recommendation and approval come after many months of interviews and reviews of applications submitted following the announcement of Superintendent Larry Bergeson's retirement last school year. This is his last year.
Washington County School Board President Becky Dunn announced the recommendation for Holmes during the consent agenda items of Tuesday's board meeting. Board member Craig Seegmiller made the motion to approve, which was seconded by "multiple" board members who all chimed in at the same time. And after the approval was made, the nearly full crowd of attendees gave a standing ovation.
