As a WA parliamentary committee reviews the draft industrial manslaughter laws, families of employees killed at work fear the legislation may not go far enough.

"We are here to stop some other poor bugger going through it.Several employer groups have raised serious concerns about the industrial manslaughter provisions, from bodies as diverse as the construction and mining industries, to farmers and regional shire councillors.

Master Builders Association executive director John Gelavis said there was no evidence from other jurisdictions that industrial manslaughter laws made the workplace safer. "It is a heavy-handed approach, it's unnecessary, the legislation that currently exists is well and truly strong enough to cover all the unintended consequences of a worksite injury or accident," PGA president Tony Seabrook said."Sometimes you just have employees that will not take responsibility for themselves and at the end of the day, it is unrealistic to sheet that back home to the employer.

"But what this committee will do is remove any excuse to delay the passage of the legislation," Mr Johnston said.
