"We had to educate them on our arrangement and we had to set our posture based on the Ts and Cs of the signed agreements, not on what their current arrangements ," said Michael Cahoon, who recently left the role of CIO at international consumer and industrial products company JM Huber.

"It was always our intent to be compliant with our license agreements. It's a part of our ethical fabric," he said. "A lot of times Oracle send a letter and the next day someone will call you and say you have to run the scripts. What you want to do is understand where you are before you give any data to Oracle," he said.
