Kevin and Isabelle Brown hope they can put their little town in Tasmania's north-west on the map by welcoming a very large, world-famous new resident.
The statue is made from a mould of the original 500-year-old statue in Florence, Italy.
While the original David is made from marble, this replica is plaster of Paris and not designed for the outdoors. The couple had to pour concrete into the base to prevent it being blown over and had to apply four coats of paint to help protect David from the elements. The full restoration took a month and required some delicate handling of David's most recognisable features. The Browns hope the statue will attract visitors from far and wide to see David in all his glory.
