I have sat on multiple panels at government level, fighting for more resources like funding, research and studies into the ways Black girls navigate the education system, how they are engaged with by authority figures and more. The silence and inaction has been deafening.She could’ve been one of them, or one of their friends. We are angry. And terrified.

Child Q’s family members have told the press that their once ‘happy-go-lucky child’ is now a ‘timid recluse who hardly speaks’. To them, Black boys are a product; a study. You get funders putting up money in order to study the impact of violence. It’s reductive, of course – this is spurned by a moral panic.

I founded Milk Honey Bees back in 2017, a youth organisation which offers a safe space for young Black girls through 1:1 sessions and creative group projects
