NSW Agriculture Minister Dugald Saunders says “we need to get ahead of the game” with vaccines and just being prepared for the possible threat of foot and mouth disease.
The threat of foot and mouth disease is far from over and while it is the federal government’s job to keep it out of the country, the NSW governments are not taking any chances.
“The money we are tipping into things like the mRNA vaccines, preparedness with sheep and goat, electronic identification and training of people is all about making sure we as a state are on the front foot,” Mr Saunders told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “Yet we need federal support, we are absolutely calling for federal support, but we also need to do our bit as a state as well”.
