NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb says NSW Police needs to be “competitive” to attract new recruits, after announcing a pay rise for trainee police officers.

Student Police Officers paid to study at the Goulburn Police Academy will receive a total salary of approximately $30,984 over the 16-week study period. “This announcement is now allowing those that had thought about it and weren’t able to now consider this as a career,” Ms Webb said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“I know officers are working hard and they are tired and they are looking forward to this announcement as much as we are. “They’re looking forward to recruits coming through the door to support them in the work that they do to keep all the different areas of NSW safe, not just metropolitan Sydney.”
