Some ECHO readers think the city would be better served by a fully functioning tram network than Steve Rotheram's 'trackless trams'
There has been a mixed response to Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram's proposal to bring in "trackless trams".
But many ECHO readers are hankering after a proper tram network. On Twitter/X, one user said: "We need a network of trams like Manchester's Metrolink. No point dressing it up - these are buses, not trams. It is a welcome bit of investment but it is also just a bendy bus. A dedicated tram link would be far better.
Another Twitter/X user suggested the proposed system might lead to a future tram network. They said: "The Glider proposal lays the foundation for a future tram network. They usually have centralised island stops and lanes, similar to trams; instead of bus stops on the left of the road.What do you think of the Glider plans? Let us know in the comments below
Some readers could see the value in the Glider system, but there was a feeling among some that the Glider would only cater to tourists, not to locals.
