A major search is underway in waters off South Australia's south-east coast for two missing fishermen after their boat was found overturned.

Another vessel found the upturned boat about 9 kilometres off Cape JaffaPolice said they were alerted to an overturned boat about 9 kilometres off Cape Jaffa just before 1:00pm."We have found the boat but we haven't found anyone on board — we're hoping that the occupants have got their life jackets on," he said.He said police know who the occupants of the boat were.

"At this time, I'm not going to discuss any of those details — it's obviously an emerging situation," he said. "We're in the search and rescue phase at this point in time and we need to keep our levels of optimism up that these two men are still alive. We're frantically looking for them."Superintendent Hoff said another vessel found the submerged boat in the ocean, before taking some photos and reporting it with authorities at Cape Jaffa.

He said the search would continue until rescue crews run out of light, adding that a dive team would be deployed on Wednesday to search waters underneath where the boat was found.Superintendent Hoff said offshore conditions in the area required fisherman to have"really good sea knowledge" and"very shipshape vessels".
