After Mr Johnson’s resignation on Friday, a spokesperson for the Privileges Committee said that the former prime minister had “impugned the integrity of the House by his statement”, which directly referenced both the committee and its chair, the Labour MP Harriet Harman. Two of Mr Johnson’s close allies have also decided to stand down including his former culture secretary, Nadine Dorries, and former minister without portfolio, Nigel Adams.
