Lockyer reveals damage of Bennett Broncos oust
Darren Lockyer says falling out with Wayne Bennett was inevitable after the coach's volatile Brisbane exit last year.
The retired Broncos NRL great was part of the club's six-strong board of directors to oversee Bennett's sacking in a drawn-out episode he described as a "circus" at Red Hill. Lockyer admitted he and former mentor Bennett were "not on great speaking terms" as a result but hoped that time would heal the wounds.
Seven-time premiership coach Bennett will wear South Sydney colours in 2019, a year earlier than initially planned in a coaching swap with Anthony Seibold.The messy ordeal dominated the news cycle prior to Christmas and Lockyer admits it has taken a toll on his private life.
