The weather Gods were relatively kind to the thousands who descended upon a Chorley park for a stunning fireworks display. Drizzle and dark clouds had loomed over Astley Park all day, threatening a soggy night ahead.

Futuristic wands, sabres and illuminous neon-coloured masks were on sale and they infiltrated the crowds, making it flash like a giant disco.
A small fairground greeted visitors as they entered the park by Astley Hall, which reopened in the summer following extensive renovation work and recently saw 3,000 people entertained by a festival of light, dance and music.
