Wednesday creators explain why she was a teenager in the series. 'Her sort of fearlessness and her ability to always be herself with something, that was interesting, and we thought, well, 'What if she was a teenage girl?'
The creators of Wednesday have revealed why they chose to base the series on the character of Wednesday Addams. While Wednesday is usually a young girl in adaptations of The Addams Family, Wednesday sees her as a teenager sent away to the boarding school Nevermore Academy after attempting to kill several of her classmates. There, Wednesday has to solve a murder mystery, while also learning to get along with her fellow outcasts at the academy.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The show has proven incredibly successful with over a billion hours watched in only a single month. While Wednesday's success has come as no surprise, it is somewhat remarkable that it took so long to put the show together, given how beloved nature of the Addams family.
"It was a character that we all really loved, and nobody had spent a lot of time with. And it’s a character we’d only seen really as a 10-, 11-, 12-year-old, who is part of a family and would have a funny line in the scene, but we didn’t know much about her.
Of course, given that Wednesday is a show about Wednesday Addams alone, it isn't entirely fair to expect the show to flesh out the family completely. The Addams family has always been a family that satirizes standard suburban living, but Wednesday flipped the point of the Addams family by having Wednesday living away from the familiar setting. With a different purpose, there isn't necessarily a need to explore the entire family.
What's Next For Wednesday Addams? As a tremendous success, Wednesday won't be the last that Netflix sees of the macabre hero. The Wednesday writers have confirmed that a Wednesday and Enid relationship isn't off the table, which means that Enid can still appear as well. So whether Wednesday returns to a normal school or is welcomed back to Nevermore, it looks like Enid will be joining her on the next steps of her journey.
