There are three crucial reasons why the game is dying in Australia. And none of them are called Eddie Jones.
This is partly due to the fact I don’t understand the intricacies of the game they apparently play in heaven, and I’ve never been bothered enough to try to.

Yes, I know little of the machinations of rugby but that the Wallabies performed terribly does seem to be the unanimous opinion of those who’ve forgotten more than I’ll ever hope to know about the sport.. And it’s also too easy to blame all of Australian rugby’s woes on the current coach.
It means rugby is not the deepest of ponds in which to fish for talent or actual interest in the sport. Factor in the not-too-easy accessibility of watching the sport at international and professional level, with top-level rugby rarely being broadcast on free-to-air TV.Australian rugby’s second issue is a product of its first. The game has a serious revenue problem. Rugby Australia’s annual reports reveal that in the last reporting period, it made a relatively small surplus of about $8 million.
The consequence is that it’s hard to make the game better, without the necessary firepower derived from making the game bigger.Australian rugby has governance issues. It’s the type of corporate sports governance knot that never gets undone without a big carrot, a big stick or both.In the last week, the International Olympic Committee confirmed weightlifting would remain on the Olympic program for Los Angeles in 2028.
The RA constitution provides that its voting members are the state and territory rugby unions, each Super Rugby franchise in Australia and, curiously, the Rugby Union Players’ Association.
