Police Chief has been left bleeding and with head injuries after allegedly being beaten with a pole by a group of teenagers.

Chief Inspector Bob Fitzgerald has been in the force for nearly 40 years but yesterday on his way to work he was allegedly bashed by a group of teenagers, the youngest just 12 years old. "One of those offenders has now been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm was 12 years old and they assaulted him with a makeshift weapon," President of the Police Association Kevin Morton said.The senior officer witnessed three boys, aged just 12, 13 and 14, allegedly abusing passengers and staff at the Rooty Hill Train Station just before 4.30am on Monday.

As he arrested one of the trio, the off-duty Blacktown officer was struck multiple times in the head allegedly with a bike seat pole. "This young person was 12 years old and he assaulted a 60-year-old male who identified himself as an off-duty police officer - I can only imagine what they would do to a member of the public," Morton said.Fitzgerald was taken to hospital and the three teenagers were arrested.
