Wesfarmers says at least one Woodside LNG project is way behind on meeting its obligations to supply WA’s domestic gas market and wants the government to step in.
Woodside says it is honouring its commitments.Wesfarmers has singled out Woodside Energy in an escalating row over domestic gas supply in Western Australia, warning the situation in the state is putting investment in critical minerals processing at risk.
Woodside “continues to act in accordance with the commitments in our various agreements with the state government”, it said. Even so, Woodside disclosed an average realised price of $6.10 a gigajoule in the WA market for the three months to June 30, compared to $12.60 a gigajoule on the east coast. Mr Hansen said Wesfarmers’ multi-decade investments in manufacturing in WA, including $2.4 billion to $2.6 billion in lithium mining and downstream refining in partnership with SQM, depended on reliable and economic access to gas.Wesfarmers wants more market intervention through urgent reform of the reservation policy.
A Woodside spokeswoman said it had established two Pluto domestic gas projects, and is now supplying WA customers.
