The heroics of Sydney Thunder batsman Alex Ross continued but it wasn’t enough as Andre Russell survived two close calls to guide the Melbourne Stars to a six-wicket victory on Sunday night.
Daniel Sams caught the ball and threw it back to Chris Green before his momentum took him over the boundary. Ross hit an unbeaten 77 runs off 49 balls and he still hasn’t been dismissed three games into the BBL season. Sam Billings couldn’t hit double digits and the Thunder struggled to score quickly through the middle overs.
“I thought it was at least a 160 pitch,” former Australian star Mark Waugh said on the Fox Cricket commentary. But his opening partner Marcus Stoinis went to work alongside Maxwell after Nick Larkin went early.
