Most of Western Australia's juvenile detention centre has been destroyed overnight after buildings were set on fire by inmates.
The Australian reported a riot began when a juvenile detainee"got keys and they basically went around and unlocked every cell in the centre".
"The Department of Justice Special Operations Group was supported by a large police contingent and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services." Rioting has become more frequent at Banksia Hill in an alleged response to how some detainees were handled, including one boy who was locked in his cell for 24 hours per day as staff didn’t have enough time to supervise him outside.
