Western Bulldogs draftee Aiden O’Driscoll has been forced into retirement due to concussion. 7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary said O’Driscoll “recently met with the AFL ’s concussion panel after he was knocked out at training in January”. Drafted in November, the 18-year-old’s AFL dream is over inside six months. He told teammates of the decision in an emotional announcement on Tuesday morning. O’Driscoll was selected with pick No.

From Western Australia, O’Driscoll came to the club as an elite runner having placed first in the 20m sprint at the draft combine and in the top 10 for 2km time trial. Older siblings Nathan and Emma both play for Fremantle in the AFL and AFLW respectively. He becomes the third player to be forced into retirement this year after Angus Brayshaw and Nathan Murphy. In a statement, the Western Bulldogs said “they will give Aiden and his family all the support it can at this difficult time”.
