Residents of western and southwest Sydney have been told to present themselves for testing with the 12 local government areas of concern, accounting for over 80 per cent of the state’s COVID-19 cases.
It was another record number of daily cases for NSW, with a further 1,533 infections recorded in the state over the past 24 hours.
“We’ve got a number of concerns, the highest rates of disease in the Sydney metropolitan area continue to be in the Western, southwest of Sydney, where we’ve seen over 80 per cent of cases occurring in those areas,” Dr Jeremy McAnulty said. “We are particularly concerned about the suburbs of Guildford, Auburn, Merrylands, Greenacre, Liverpool, Punchbowl, Bankstown and the surrounding areas.”
Elsewhere, health authorities are concerned about the spread of the disease in the regions with fragments of the virus detected in the sewerage systems in Hunter New England, southern NSW and the Mid North Coast.
