OPINION: The bank’s strategy head, Jason Yetton, describes himself as ‘not only a visionary thinker but a visionary painter’.
Jason Yetton, a Westpac Banking Corp executive who reports to CEO Peter King, is impressed with himself.
Yetton has been given a self-inflated title too. Essentially, he’s in charge of buying and selling businesses, but is called the chief executive of specialist businesses and group strategy.says so. Not a regular CEO, though, but one who inspires admiring profiles and attracts thousands of LinkedIn followers.
Take Adam Bennett, the chief information officer at Suncorp Group, who describes himself as an “inspirational and highly authentic leader”. If you possess either of those attributes, conventional wisdom would suggest you don’t need to say so. Or the former head of investments at Colonial First State, fund manager Scott Tully, who recently posted this post-resignation report: “The last 6 months has given me the opportunity to reflect on life and the opportunities that are available.
“You get stripped back to just you, your values and attitude,” he said. “Time is precious and people won’t necessarily give it up to meet you when it is just you.
