Wetherspoon's banned England flags in 2018 during the World Cup but the popular pub chain has made a U-turn on the policy for Euro 2024
JD Wetherspoon, the well-known pub chain, has reversed its previous stance on prohibiting England flags from being displayed in its establishments during the Euro tournament this summer. Pubs within the chain now have the option to hang flags if they wish to mark the occasion.
Instead, the pubs were adorned with bunting that featured all 32 competing countries. The decision at the time sparked public outcry, reports Wales Online. "Whether flags are put up in staff rooms is up to the discretion of the manager. We have sent all pubs bunting, which includes flags of all the teams."
Eddie Gershon, a spokesperson for the brand, said: "We want our pubs to be welcoming to all football fans and they will have bunting with the flags of all competing nations. Pubs are free to display Scottish and English flags as well, should they wish."
