The Victorian government has announced that a number of health rules to contain the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 will ease.The state government has been in talks with business groups about scrapping the recommendation to work from home in the hope of regenerating the CBD and sectors that rely on its vibrancy. But a decision on whether the recommendation does get removed will wait until next week.
Visitors to retail outlets, schools and workplaces will no longer have to scan a QR code to check-in.The check-in requirements would stay in place at “vaccinated economy” venues, Premier Daniel Andrews said.Indoor mask rules will remain in place in Victoria for some weeks. Premier Daniel Andrews said, depending on data, further announcements about mask requirements and return-to-work advice would be made at the end of next week.
“We’ll continue to consult, as I have been, with our public health officials, with our hospital sectors, public and private, with businesses, and a range of other stakeholders,” he said. “I am confident that you will see us here again next week, confirming the arrangements around masks. A further 60,000 air purifiers would also be distributed to schools — bringing the total number of air purifiers in schools in the state to 111,000.
