A mixed bag of scorching temperatures and wet conditions are forecast for this Australia Day as meteorologist Rob Sharpe gives a rundown of weather across the country.
Showers and storms in parts of New South Wales and Queensland are possible for Thursday but those living on the west coast will see a sunny and hot public holiday with temperatures to soar into the mid-30s.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe said a tropical low will see wet conditions in the country's north, while wet weather is set to hit eastern New South Wales and southeast Queensland by the afternoon.
“Up north we have a tropical low that’s going to be active but it’s probably going to be just out to sea, it will help guide some wet weather over our northern regions but nothing extreme for this time of the year." “The temperatures are up into the high 20s by day, but during the night and into the morning on Australia Day the temperatures will drop down to as low as 12C, so you might even be able to wear a sweater if you're down at the beach early in the morning or late in the evening. "

The Andrews government will instead mark the day with an event at Federation Square aimed at reflecting, respecting and celebrating.
